Hey Everyone,
Hope you're having a great week. Here are a few things I've been reading, writing and pondering lately. Enjoy!
1. 50 Things We’ve Learned About Content Marketing
Here’s everything I know about content marketing in one post. If you like it, I’d really appreciate a share on Twitter or LinkedIn.
100,000 monthly readers is a SaaS benchmark. Very few ever achieve it. It requires a sound strategy, great writing, and time.
Promotion and distribution are overrated. Put 90% of non-writing effort into organic search. Bursts of traffic from social media and communities are fickle.
You don’t need an audience. If search is your primary acquisition channel, you’ll never build a true audience. Instead, you’ll tap into a continuous stream of people with a problem to solve.
2. Your Outdoor Pursuits Make You Better at Your Job
This is a cool post from a writer named Alex Hutchinson. The topic closely related to another concept I’ve shared in this newsletter before called ego diversification.
According to an analysis of the biographies of all Nobel laureates between 1901 and 2005, prizewinners are far more likely to engage in serious arts-related hobbies than other scientists or the general public and to have more of these hobbies. In fact, they’re ten times more likely to have this type of hobby than the eminent scientists inducted into the National Academy or Royal Society and 29 times more likely than the general public.
3. Here’s Every Article Hiten Shah Has Ever Shared in His Newsletter
There is only one word to describe this resource: bookmarkable.
4. Sonder, the Marketer’s Emotion
My coworker Eddie Shleyner is a darn good writer. I really enjoyed this post.
A marketer’s job, after all, is embracing the worldview of others, even if that view is starkly different from their own.
And doing so can be incredibly difficult.
5. Random Links
- I highly recommend The History of the Eagles on Netflix.
- ConvertKit increased ARR a casual 184X IN THE LAST THREE YEARS. Truly incredible.
- This newsletter looks pretty interesting: BizarroDevs.
- From Atlassian: 14 random ways to be kind at work (and why it matters)
- Netflix created its own font to save millions in font licensing fees.
Have a great weekend!
Jimmy
PS - I'm looking to partner with a few great businesses to sponsor this newsletter. It reaches a bunch of smart folks from places like Google, Apple, Spotify, New York Times, Marriott and Harvard. Shoot me an email if you're interested in working together.
PPS - I created an email course called 5 Days to Better Content Marketing. More than 300 people have already taken it. You should check it out too.
