"Conflating luck and talent is dangerous."
Hey Everyone,
Hope you're having a great week. Here are a few things I've been reading, writing and pondering lately. Enjoy!
I'm helping Chameleon hire a Head of Content
I recently started a new company called Superpath. I'm helping a few companies fill content roles and right, Chameleon has a great opening for a new Head of Content.
I'll be helping a few people with their application. Learn about the role and get details here.
1. A Quick Read for White People Who Don’t Consider Themselves Racist
I found this to be a very helpful read:
It’s uncomfortable to realise that we’ve been given better opportunities. It almost feels like it’s undercutting your accomplishments. I know, you worked hard to get where you are, this movement isn’t trying to discredit that. It just wants to give other people a chance to catch up; a chance for tangible not theoretical equality.
It reminded me of an article by Scott Galloway in which he says, "Conflating luck and talent is dangerous. As I get older, I’m struck by how big a part luck played in my life, and how much I mistook it for skill."
2. Stripe's John Collison on Growing the Internet Economy
This guy is really smart and Patrick O’Shaughnessy is a pretty good interviewer.
3. Joe Rogan Got Ripped Off by Spotify
As my friend Sean Blanda says, "Always. Own. Your. Platform."
As I pointed out in my last post, if Rogan had added subscription, he would have owned a company that looked like the world’s best SaaS business. Crazy recurring revenue, with low churn and insanely high margins, growing at 25–50% per year as podcasting’s audience grows over time.
This revenue is INSANELY valuable and should be built by him, not Spotify.
Btw, Medium is worth $5/month.
4. Tweet of the Week
There's a lot of smart stuff in this thread.
